Tilebond White Ceramic Tile Adhesive
Tilebond White is a lightly modified thin bed adhesive designed for bonding most types of
ceramic tiles, Porcelain tiles and white or translucent marble onto rigid substrates.
Tilebond White can be used internally and externally for most domestic and commercial wall and
floor tiling applications where the specific substrate is not subject to movement, vibration and
flexing, or where there is a specific need for white adhesive.
For example bonding white or translucent marble, glass mosaics etc. onto: Concrete, Render,
Brickwork, Swimming pools.
Where there is heavy loading, or, total submersion and for bonding glass and vitrified tiles,
Uniprime additive should be added to the mix to enhance the bond strength, and or improve
To provide higher bond strength and flexibility Uniflex should be added as full or partial
replacement. Replacement rates are dependant on flexibility desired.
While in most cases Tilebond White can be applied directly to the substrate it is good practice to
prime first to avoid rapid loss of the gauging water.
Priming becomes essential if the substrate is excessively porous or very dense.
In all cases the surface should be dry and free from any contamination.
Concrete and render should be properly cured for a minimum of 30 and 14 days respectively.
Tilebond White should not be used for direct fixing to gypsum plaster, paint, metal and over
substrates that are subject to movement.
Expansion/ Movement Joints:
Expansion/ Movement joints must be provided to allow for movement between adjacent building
components. They should be as follows:
Over existing joints in the substrate, where two different substrates meet e.g. Plasterboard and
fibre cement sheet, at internal vertical corners.
On wall surfaces at storey heights horizontally and approx. 3m-4.5m apart vertically.
Movement joints should go right through the tile adhesive bed to the background and kept free
from dirt and adhesive droppings. Movement joints must not be less than 6 mm and not wider
than 10 mm. The movement joints must be filled with a flexible sealant like Silicone.
Add the required amount of liquid (about 0.8-1 Litre per square metre) to a clean bucket.
While stirring, slowly add the powder (about 3.33-5.0 Kg per square metre) and mix until a
smooth lump free paste is achieved.
Allow to stand for 5 minutes and re stir.
For improved bond strength, water and chemical resistance, and shear/tensile strengths, Uniprime
should be added as full, or partial water replacement at a ratio of 2-5 Litres per 20 Kg bag of
Typically applications include: swimming pools, vitrified or “porcelain” tiles, commercial work
and some stone.
Tilebond White is typically applied with a 8.0-12mm notched trowel.
Applying about a square metre at a time and firmly pressing the tiles into the adhesive making
sure that the adhesive has not “skinned off”.
Any material that has “skinned” or dried excessively should be discarded.
Note: Tilebond White is cement based and the principles of cement working should therefore be
Excess adhesive from the face of the tiles can be cleaned up with damp cloth while the adhesive
is still wet.
Adhesive that has oozed out into the grout joint must be racked out with a knife/spatula etc.
Tools and other equipment can be cleaned up using water while the adhesive is still wet.
Coverage will vary depending on the substrate condition and the type of tile but is approximately
Generally grouting can commence after the adhesive has achieved a firm set (about 24 hours).
Grouting can be carried out with RLA Grout or RLA Coarse Grout in combination with Grout
Packaging/ Shelf Life:
Available in: 5 kg cartons and 20 kg bags
When stored in a cool, dry environment, and above ground level, will have a shelf life of
approximately 12 months.
Tilebond is classified as a non-hazardous product.
For a full MSDS on this product please contact your nearest RLA office.
Tilebond being cement based is alkaline in nature, and therefore may cause dermatitis.
