Deltaflex Ceramic Tile Adhesive
Deltaflex is a multipurpose, heavily polymer modified thin or thick bed adhesive designed for
bonding most types of ceramic tiles and stone onto substrates that may be subject to vibration and
Deltaflex can be used internally or externally for most domestic and light commercial wall and
floor tiling applications where the substrate is subject to limited movement e.g. under tile heating
systems etc, but should not be used for laying tiles directly onto timber substrates or for
applications that are subject to total immersion.
Deltaflex is typically applied to: Concrete, Render, Brickwork, Fibre cement sheets, Heated floor
slabs, Plasterboards, existing properly prepared ceramic tiles, and waterproof membranes.
While in most cases Deltaflex can be applied directly to the substrate to be tiled there is
occasionally a requirement to prime the surface first with Uniprime i.e. on very porous surfaces
or very dense glossy surfaces.
In all instances the surface needs to be well fixed and free from any contamination.
Special note should be taken on the fixing and sealing requirements of the substrate supplier.
Where water proofing is required use Miracryl 2 part or Polymer Liquid seal.
Expansion/ Movement Joints:
Expansion/ Movement joints must be provided to allow for movement between adjacent building
components. They should be as follows:
Over existing joints in the substrate, where two different substrates meet e.g. Timber and
concrete, around fixed elements in the floor e.g. columns, at internal vertical corners, and around
the perimeter of the floor.
In internal floors where any dimension exceeds 9m or 6m if subjected to sunlight, and in external
floors where any dimension exceeds 4.5m.
On wall surfaces at storey heights horizontally and approx. 3m-4.5m apart vertically.
Movement joints should go right through the tile adhesive bed to the background and kept free
from dirt and adhesive droppings. Movement joints must not be less than 6 mm and not wider
than 10 mm. The movement joints must be filled with a flexible sealant like Silicone.
Deltaflex only requires the addition of clean drinkable water.
Place the required amount of water into a clean bucket, allowing about 0.6-0.8 L per m2 of tiling
(if using a 10mm trowel).
Slowly add the powder to the liquid while stirring, and mix until a smooth lump free paste of the
desired consistency is achieved.
Allow to stand for 5 minutes and re stir.
Deltaflex is applied to the substrate with a suitable notched trowel (6-10mm) (see notes on
Apply about a square metre at a time and firmly press the tiles into the adhesive making sure that
the adhesive has not “skinned off”.
Any material that has “skinned” or dried excessively should be scraped off and discarded.
Excess adhesive from the face of the tiles can be cleaned up with damp cloth while the adhesive
is still wet.
Adhesive that has oozed out into the grout joint must be racked out with a knife/spatula etc.
Tools and other equipment can be cleaned up using water while the adhesive is still wet.
Coverage will vary depending on the substrate condition and the type of tile but will be
approximately 10m2/20kg of Deltaflex using a 10mm trowel, and approx 18m2 if using a 6mm
Generally grouting can be carried out after the adhesive has achieved a firm set (6-8 hours).
Use either RLA Grout or Smooth Grout on the walls and either RLA Grout or Coarse Grout in
combination with Grout Add, or Flexi-groutTM Liquid premix on the floors.
Packaging/ Shelf Life:
Deltaflex is available in 20 Kg
A bag of Deltaflex, when stored in a cool, dry environment, and above ground level, will have a
shelf life of approximately 12 months.
Due to the specially selected polymers and resins used, Deltaflex will adhere to 7 day old
concrete provided a 12mm notch trowel is used. Note: Although this is possible, due to the
various materials and chemicals used in modern concrete slabs, in some circumstances excessive
shrinkage can occur as the concrete sets, and for this reason RLA Polymers highly recommends
that concrete be left to cure for a minimum of 28 days.

Deltaflex is classified as a nonhazardous product.
Deltaflex being cement based is alkaline in nature, and therefore may cause dermatitis. It is
recommended that applicators wear PVC gloves or similar and safety goggles.
